The 2010 series includes 14 Women’s teams, 11 Men’s teams and four Elite teams. Spectators enjoyed barbeque and other refreshments provided by the Old Florida Fish House. “The first race was a huge success,” said Tom Losee, co-founder of YOLO Board. “The race series has evolved over the last three years and includes such a great representation of our community. All the teams competed well and we’re looking forward to seeing how the upcoming races unfold. Eastern Lake provided a beautiful backdrop for the festivities.” The next race event is scheduled for Thursday June 3rd at Western Lake at the WaterColor Boathouse. The 29 teams will continue on to compete throughout the series as they vie for the champion title “YOLO Board Cup Series” to be awarded after the final race in August in each division. Race dates (weather permitting) are: June 3rd, June 25th, July 15th and August 19th. Races begin at 5:00pm. Emcee Mike Sturdivant of BlueMountainSurf.com entertained the crowd throughout the evening with his race commentary. The Women’s Division 2nd and 3rd place finishers were the Salon Twist and Unbalanced Teams while the Billabong and Laser Awesome teams rounded out the top three for the Men. The GUSU and Sunset Beach Services teams finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Elite Division. The fun continued on Sunday, May 17th at the YOLO Stand-Up Paddle Series Family Day races also held at Eastern Lake. Area children participated in different types of races including parent/child races, relay style races and individual races. The lighthearted event allowed the children to learn how to paddle and enjoy a little friendly competition out on the water. Upcoming Family Day races are scheduled for June 6th at the WaterColor Boathouse and July 18th at Eastern Lake at 2:00pm.
